The totality of your application, including all supporting documents, is carefully evaluated when considering admission.

Below are the deadlines for submitting the Online Application, including all supporting documents and test scores. We will complete the review of your application after all requirements have been received.

Application Requirements

Official Transcripts

Duquesne students and alumni: The registrar will send official transcripts for current students or alumni who have graduated within the past 5 years. For students who have graduated beyond 5 years, you can request your transcript through Duquesne's Registrar.

Other US-based university/college students and alumni: Contact your school's registrar office to have your official transcript sent via email grad-busFREEDUQUESNE%20or via post to:

Students who completed their degree(s) outside the U.S.: Students are required to use a transcript credential evaluation service to obtain a course-by-course report. The official reports must be sent directly to Duquesne University from the service used. Once received, it will satisfy both your transcript and evaluation requirements.

Three-year bachelor's degrees may be acceptable if the credential evaluation service determines that it is equivalent to a four-year bachelor's degree. Please review our Transcript Credential Evaluation page to find out more information.

* You will need to request official transcripts from all colleges and/or universities you have attended. This includes transfer coursework earned at any institution, even if you did not earn a degree.

References

Two professional references are required as part of the application process. References should be from former professors or supervisors who can evaluate your potential for graduate study.

After your Online Application has been received, you will be directed to a Supplemental Document Portal where you can enter the contact information for both recommenders. The recommendation form will then be sent electronically to each recommender your application portal.

Essay

Each Specialized MS program has distinct essay prompts and application requirements, which are outlined below the individual Admission Requirements for each degree. Please review these details carefully to ensure a complete and competitive application.

Resume/CV

After you submit the Online Application, you will receive an email directing you to our Supplemental Document Portal for uploading your resume or CV. Your resume/CV should outline your academic background and career progression. Leadership and involvement in professional organizations should also be highlighted. For applicants with no post-bachelors work experience, please be sure to list any internships and extracurricular activities that you have been involved with.

GMAT/GRE scores (Optional)

You may choose to submit a GMAT or GRE score if you do not think your work experience or academic performance accurately reflects your potential for success in graduate study.

Although the GMAT/GRE are not required for admission, they may be required for consideration for merit-based funding opportunities.

International Students: English Proficiency Requirements

  • TOEFL: TOEFL scores must be sent directly from the ETS website. Duquesne's institution code for the TOEFL is 2196, and the department code is 02. We require a TOEFL score earned within 12 months (one year) from the time of application. The minimum score for TOEFL is 90.
  • IELTS: IELTSIELTS scores must be sent directly from the IELTS website. We require an IELTS score earned within 12 months (one year) from the time of application. The minimum score for IELTS is 7.
  • DET: DET scores must be sent directly from the Duolingo website. We require a DET score earned within 12 months (one year) from the time of application. The minimum score for DET is 125.

Application Deadlines
Applicants who are not pursuing graduate assistantships may apply to the M.S. in Accountancy until the start of classes. Applicants are reviewed on a rolling basis. Typically, admission decisions are released within 5 to 7 business days of an applicant submitting all required materials.

Deadlines for Graduate Assistantships
Fall Entry: Students who wish to be considered for graduate assistantships are advised to submit their applications by February 1.

This program is F-1 student visa compliant, but it is not STEM-designated. Graduates of this program will be eligible for one year of OPT post-graduation. Please contact International Admissions at Duquesne University for more information.

Pre-requisites
The following courses (or equivalent coursework) are required to be completed before enrollment in the MAcc program:

  • Financial Accounting
  • Managerial Accounting 
  • Intermediate Accounting I
  • Intermediate Accounting II
  • Auditing 

*Students interested in becoming a CPA in the state of Pennsylvania are recommended to complete a class in taxation to fulfill the state's licensing requirements. A "B" average or better in all accounting courses is required for admissions considerations. 

Applicants who opt to take a Pass/No Pass grade in a prerequisite course during spring 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic will still be considered for admission to the program. The review committee will evaluate applications on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the totality of a student's academic record and other materials in the admission packet. 

Prerequisite courses can be taken either before enrollment in the MAcc Program at Duquesne University or another institution. Please note that courses from other institutions will be reviewed by Duquesne faculty to determine their equivalency to Duquesne courses. You will need to provide a syllabus and a course description for any courses for which a waiver is requested. The MAcc Program will accept Financial Accounting and/or Managerial Accounting from a community college; however, all other prerequisite courses must be completed at a four-year accredited institution.

Applicants who are not pursuing graduate assistantships may apply to the MS-AIM until the start of classes. Applicants are reviewed on a rolling basis. Typically, admission decisions are released within 5 to 7 business days of an applicant submitting all required materials.

Deadlines for Graduate Assistantships
Fall Entry: Students who wish to be considered for graduate assistantships are advised to submit their applications by March 1.

This program is STEM-designated and F-1 student visa compliant. Graduates of this program will be eligible for OPT and a STEM-based OPT extension – a total of three years. Please contact International Admissions at Duquesne University for more information.

Fall Entry: Students who wish to be considered for graduate assistantships are advised to submit their applications by March 1.

Due to this program being offered completely online, it is not F-1 student visa compliant.

Applicants who need to take the fundamental courses are encouraged to start in the summer, while students who have been waived from the fundamental courses will start in the fall.
